I work at Robotmaster and "have" to use it every day. It provides an easy and common interface for people familiar with cad/cam software, along with toolpath control from Mastercam to control the robot tool to exact process specifications.
Things like lead in tails and exit tails are done automatically; tool tilting by a degree value, cutting normal to a curface, surface covering, tool compensation, point distribution tolerancing ... it's all automated so paths can really be tailored to an application.

Further it graphically maps out robot orientations which would cause errors, so the paths that are generated will run on the robot precisely how they would look in simulation, without errors. It goes far beyond just CAD/CAM toolpaths being converted to robot code.

In general, with a given robot/ frame and tool data, I can import something like a .dxf for a simple cutting path and have it on the robot in 10-20 minutes.
more complex surface work may take more time, but process procedure can be carried over to other robots/brands.

If you want more info feel free to contact me and I can get you in touch with someone, or goto www.robotmaster.com

Hi
You may also add Process Simulate (also by Tecnomatix) to the list of OLP softwares

Hi,

I work with Robcad, Delmia and CimStation long time ago.

Robcad is the most powerfull, very good for off-line programming, but is the most expensive. Only for great companys with a lot of work on simulation.

Delmia is not so powerful and intuitive as Robcad.

CimStation is the best for simulation bearing his low price in mind, but it is not so powerful in off-line as other two.

It is my personal opinion.

Where is the "best bang for my buck" regarding simulation and offline programming software?  This stuff can get pretty expensive, can it not?  I can see the advantage to buying software, but will my purchasing department?

depends on what business your company is in.

if you have lots of robots or you programme other companies robots go for robcad or similar, if only a few robots just for your company try to find something cheaper, some robot manufacturers have there own software that you can get cheaper if you buy their robots.

I'm new here, and new to robotics, so I don't really know what "cheaper" means.  I've heard some of these softwares are pretty salty.  How much are we talking?  Hundreds?  Thousands?  Ten thousands?
