hummingbird / exceed (is the same thing as far as robcad users are concerned) is something that sits between windows and robcad.

RobCAD originally ran on unix, but when they released the PC version of robcad they had not rewritten robcad, they ported it instead (exceed acts like a unix environment for robcad to run on).

I dont know if you can use a different x server (robcad is only supplied with exceed on the installation disc), i do know that when you start changing the hummingbird options it can have big effects (i leave it how robcad installs it - because it works - and some of the combinations of changes you can make stop robcad working)

Even when robcad ran on unix computers (sgi, hp, sun, etc..) there were different installation files because the different computers had slightly different versions of unix. (I think the version of robcad that got ported to pc was the sgi version)

If you dont have exceed (or equivalent - if you can find one that works), current versions of robcad will not run on pc.

Different versions of hummingbird have different capabilities. (Some can use multicore processors effectively, some cant, some versions can get the best out of 64bit or vista, others cant), obviously this effects the performance of robcad.

There are actually two Delmia versions out there DELMIA D5 IGRIP and DELMIA V5 Robotics.

The V5 version can be used separately or added to an existing CATIA V5 seat.

To speed up offline programming even further you can add one of the CENIT FASTPRODUCTS. See topic for detail: http://www.robot-forum.com/robotforum/other_systems_and_general_simulation_discussions/simulation_offline_programming_softwares-t2295.0.html

Delmia has replace igrip in one of its modules Delmia is the manufacturing version of catia it has workbenches more for production and process tools.
Robcad is more commonly used in the automotive indistries such as ABB, Thyssen Krupp, Carman, and Kuka choose carfully the between delmia and Robcad if you have a project
that will be installed by a 3rd party convertions from one system to the other isn't without headaches and large costs.
Been there.

What about ROBOTMASTER? Same software technology such as MasterCAM.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!
