Anyone have experience upgrading WinXP to service pack 2 on a KRC running v5.2?
I was able to get SP2 installed and everything back running, except Kuka HMI 1.2 won't launch.  The Cross3 program launches, but the system just sits there, never launching Kuka HMI 1.2.

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

first ill ask the question?

What possessed you to want to upgrade the robot to sp2 ? and why not upgrade to sp3???

just because theres an update for the service pack doesnt mean that you need to install it. Please remember that years ago, computers were generally designed for one task, and not a bunch of different tasks. Then microsoft saw the demand for an all in one PC that could do everything (You should be able to remember this, until the problems to make this happen were worked out, there were alot of bSOD's)

my point being is that windows on the robot is being used for one task. thats running KUKA_HMI. I will load development software on top of it when im creating tools and applications but ive never needed to update windows itself.

I guess i could provide some actual help along with my remarks..

Id do this..

Go to c:\KRC:\Roboter\Log

first backup everything, preferably to a zip folder

once you have done that, delete all the items from the folder.

now try to start the software again, and then post up results.. atleast the KUKA_HMI.exe.log file and theres one more but my coffee isnt kicking in yet to help.

I'm attempting to upgrade to sp2 because that what's required to install ImagingLabs server program for LabVIEW.  This allows you to interface a National Instruments system running LabVIEW to a Kuka, Denso, or Mitsubishi robot.
Are you familiar with LabVIEW?

I didn't attempt to upgrade to sp3 because the support guys at Kuka said it wouldn't work and stick with SP2.

I was hoping that this was something someone had done before and that the fix was simple.

I tried deleting the files in the c:\KRC\Roboter\Log.  It didn't change anything.
The only entry in the KUKA_HMI.exe.log file states that the program launched.
Checking the processes in taskmgr shows that Kuka_hmi.exe has launched, but isn't doing anything and all the processing time is being occupied by cross3.exe.

Did you try reinstalling KSS V5.2 back over itself?

KUKA Windows XP Embedded V2.2 is Service Pack 3

I think KUKA Windows XP Embedded V2.0 is SP2
and
Embedded v1.1 is SP1

Which WinXP version you have ? (HELP->INFO)

In any case you should call KUKA and request new WinXP version (and possibly new KSS version 5.6)

Unless he has a non 2005 edition controller.  Then I think V5.2 is the highest he can go.

The non 2005 edition and KSS version may also limit which XPe versions are an option.

Either way, if he reloads XPe, he will need to be ready to reinstall all his other software as well.
