Any one have any input on the set-up ease and use of Force Control for tool compliance ?
or would  a third party tool compliance device be better for an end of arm sanding tool?

Depends on your application, and the cost and capability of the 3rd-party device.  Force-Torque Control definitely has a learning curve, but once you get much beyond simple 1- or 2-dimensional compliance, FTC probably becomes much more cost-effective.  And you can do much, much more with it than mere compliance.
