The D controller has a 1KA (Main Processor CPU) and 1KB (Servo CPU board)  board. The D+ has a 1RA (Main Processor CPU) and 1RB (Servo CPU board) board. These are identified by one set having yellow tabs and the other having red tabs (though I can not remember which has what off the top of my head). The 1KA has 1MB of SRAM standard while the 1RA has 2 MB of SRAM standard. The 1KA can be upgraded to 4MB of SRAM while the 1RA can be upgraded to 5MB of SRAM. With the 1KA on the D controller eathernet was an option with a daughter board that was used. On the 1RA board with the D+ eathernet is standard. The D controller can be upgraded to a D+ by installing a 1RA and 1RB board.
Other than that, most of the physical characteristics are the same. D+ basically proesses faster and has eathernet standard. There are also the usual software differences because of different PCBs. The production of the D Controller with a 1KA really did not last too long of a run before changing to the 1RA and upgrading to the D+.
