How different are they?  I have a set of D-series manuals; will they suffice for some mods/re-programming of some C series ones?  If they're significantly different, has anyone got the PDFs I could get for reference?

They should be pretty close, I think you will probablly find that the D-controller will have most of the C-controller commands, you can type help at the user prompt and I think your controller will list all the commands available on your controller.

all of the C-controller commands carry over to D-Controller with a couple of commands differing for the saving of data to CF card. The D controller also introduces some new commands.
