Asking that question here is like asking a bunch of drunk guys in a bar what is the best automobile.

For real data and not opinions, you would need to look at www.ifr.org or www.robotics.org and purchase robotics market studies.  There is probably a market study out of Japan or other Asian market, but I don't know about it.

My experience is that Fanuc & ABB were always #1 and #2, and everyone else fell in line much further down.  And which company was actually #1 or #2 seemed to be dependent on whether the market study was done in USA or Europe.

For welding you should take Panasonic also into account.
Because this is the only robot manufacturer that has an integrated powersource into the controller. Which is directly controlled by de robot CPU, named TAWERS.

I think this is the best performing arc welding robot at the moment.
Besides that they delivered world wide a lot of robots and for welding robots probably even more then the mentioned other robots.

As per me,

In welding - Motoman is the best
For Handling - Fanuc and ABB
SPOT welding - again Motoman
Plasma cutting - Motoman
For Assembly - ABB/Fanuc

The bad part for FANUC is a lot of security as far as manual sharing is concerned, as it is hampering its own growth.
