Does anyone know if there is any legaly free software for translating karel.  It takes up a lot of time using my RH to find simple syntax errors.

For free I don't think so, also Karel is a Fanuc trademark thus you have to use fanuc compiler (olpc for oldest versions, WINolpc for middle ones, OLPCPro for latest!)
