Our Fanuc instructor mentioned that the screw heads inside the controller cabinets weren't Phillips heads, but Reed and Prince. Anyone know where to get such a screwdriver? I think longer would be better than short.

If you live in the states try Sears--that's wherre I got mine, but that was some time ago.

Try searching for "prince-reed screwdriver" on thw web.

I have tried reed prince and frearson via a google search and got a couple of hits.
I think Grainger has a short one.  I may end up going to Fanuc to get a long one.
thanks

Vessel brand is the kind you are looking for.  The tip is what is called JIS (Japanese Industry Standard).
They are the best for removing the screws on anything made in Japan.

Great! Thanks for supplying the correct name. They can be bought from The vessel distributor.
Also the RC helicopter folks like them and some of their sites sell them.

Yup,
The good old red and clear vessel screw driver.  As stated before Craftman's makes them but they are prince and reed type slight different from JIS and they can strip (chew up)  the screw heads if the screws are tight or lock-tited.  The one that FRNA sell and uses is the  Vessel J6300 R2 250   http://www.vessel.jp/products/pro_hand.html

Got my first one from Fanuc at the last place I worked.  They are pretty much the only screwdriver you find in my tool box now.
