I ran into a problem yesterday trying to do a USB backup on an Rj30iA with handling tool software. Version 7.20 maintenance update 33.

I have 6 robots with the same software and update level.
I use a 1Gb sandisk Cruzer USB stick that I used a week ago to backup another robot with version 7.40 software. I had no problems there. However I do here with these 6 robots. Here are the issues I observed:

1) When the memory stick is inserted, the green light comes on for about 1 second then goes off. If I put the stick in half way, then pull it out and put it back in, the green light on the stick stays on. But Fanuc doesn't recognize it.

2) Fanus does not recognize the stick at all. I tried one from geek squad, a PNY, and a different sandisk stick. In all I
    tried 5 different sticks.

3) These robots have passwords on them as well. I tried with logging on to the "install" level password as well as the
"operator" level and tried without logging in.

4) I used total commander to do the backup via Ethernet with no issues. It prompted me for the password when I
    started the transfer.

I called Fanuc support and they said well the 1Gb Sandisk Cruzer is a supported device and it should work fine. I know the stick is fine because I use it all the time as I do installs and service work.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I thought maybe it was a revision level issue but tech support said no. Tech support says maybe a maintenance update issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated or comments.

No, I cannot use the MC slot because the remote cabinet is mounted inside the cell and the customer gets upset when we shut down there line for a backup.

Thanks,
Corey

Check to be sure the robot has the "USB on iPendant" Option (J957) listed as "Installed".  This is a no-charge option from FANUC but doesn't guarantee it was set to auto-load with the core software.  This might be the case especially if the pendants have been replaced and the original iPendants were not USB-equipped.  You've probably already checked this but sometimes the simple answers are the easiest to overlook.

I will check that. Thanks. I didn't even think about that. I just assumed it was installed because it gave me the option to set the device to the USB, or UD1 as they call it.

Here is an update. I can use the USB on the pendant and it works fine for backing up files, but I still cannot get the usb on the cabinet to work. Maybe I can only have one or the other.

I've been able to use either one at will on my RJ30iA units.  I will note that the cabinet-mounted USB port is substantially faster than the TP USB port, though.  Don't have any other insight to offer, I'm afraid.
