Hello Everybody.

I keep getting this error message when I try to run a program in automatic mode:
syst_008 "Nothing is the Master Device"

can this be caused by a jumper setting or...

(The variable $RMT_Master is set to 0)

Pleaaaaase...

I gather you've seen the alarm description below in the manual etc?:

"SYST008 WARN Nothing is the master device
Cause: The system variable $RMT_MASTER is set to disable all devices. Therefore, no remote device can issue motion.
Remedy: Turn the REMOTE switch to local (if the operation is attempted from the SOP), or set the $RMT_MASTER system variable correctly. Refer to the SYSTEM RJ3 Software Reference Manual , Chapter 2 "System Variables", for more information on system variables."

Below is a description of $RMT_MASTER variable:
"Description: Determines which remote device is in control of motion when the
remote switch is set to REMOTE. 0:User Operator Panel 1:CRT/KB 2:Host
computer 3:Remote device none."

How is the "Remote/Local Setup" set on the System Config menu? See below:

"-- Remote : Keeps SI[2] on (remote mode) at all times.
-- Local : Keeps SI[2] off (local mode) at all times.
-- External I/O : Reflects the external signal status on SI[2]. When selecting this item,
specify an external signal for External I/O (ON : Remote) on the next line.
-- OP panel key: When the R--J3i MODEL B controller is used, this item cannot be selected."

Do you have a PLC talking to the robot, controlling its UOP signals etc? If so, I think the above setting should be in "Remote". If you're running purely off of the Fanuc Operation Panel, it should be in "Local"..

Not sure if any of this helps!

thanks for your answer....but  it didnt solve my problem

No I dont have a pc, I only use the Fanuc Operation Panel.

But the robot is from the automotive industry, so it is configuration is propperly set to Remote.....

......meanwhile I found out that the robot got changes in the wiring because it is a Nissan standard Fanuc.

I have the same problem on my ARCMATE 120L witj RJ2.  I have no AUTO T1 T2 switch, and I'am not using UOP.
Don't know how to solve this problem. See pictures.

You have bridged fence and emergency stop and switch is in REMOTE.
$RMT_MASTER is set to 1?  Change to 0 if it is without master.
MENUS->SYSTEM->Config->UI Signals=FALSE if You do not want to use PLC.

RJ2 model uops may need to be shut of at menus/0/system/    F1/type ====variables. arrow down to $OP_WORKS press enter find $UOP_DISABLE set to TRUE.

I have short circuit  fence, svon and emgin. I have put $RMT_MASTER is set to 0 and $UOP_DISABLE set to TRUE and of course put key in LOCAL, and still the same alarm ''SYST008 WARN Nothing is the master device''.

Is there anything else I can try? Any variable I have to check?

Thank You
