Can anyone out there assit me with conversationally teaching a program to an S420f manipulator with an RG controller.  Attached is a picture of my teach pendant (which is the only ASCII interface, unlike the motoman which I've become familiar with).

Basically, I'm looking to create a new program (or job), and run it, but I don't know what key strokes to make on the teach pendant.  Nothing too complicated yet, just to move to a couple of positions.

Because I know the question is going to come up;  I don't know for sure whether this is an RG or an RG2, that's why I've attached a picture of the model number.

thanks in advance

Really?  Nobody can help me at all?  All I want to do is make a new program from the teach pendant, and run it.  nothing complicated, just joint movement.  It was easy on my motoman (move it in place, select motion type, and press the record button).  I can't even figure out how to make a new job on this thing!

your best bet will probably be to find a manual. These things were out in the late 80's if im not mistaking...(when i was a kid) and the shape of the pendant reminds me of the movie short circuit for some reason     But im not sure if they even had tp programs yet. Its probably all karel based programming.

I've been trying to get my hands on a manual, but short of shelling out $10k, it seems impossible (fanuc if Stupid like that).  Even if I learned KAREL, I have no way of communicating with the controller.

OK, so I've determined that I do indeed need to write the program using KAREL, and fill in the position data with the teach pendant after uploading to the controller.  So now I'm face with a couple of issues

-I have no Idea how to program with KAREL (do I need a console / compiler, or just notepad?)

-I have no means of communicating with the Controller, though I've been looking for RGutil for about a year now

can anyone out there give me some guidance?

Thanks for the reply.  No, there's no disk drive, just these RS232 ports (see pic).  Any Idea where I could get an editor/ compiler?

you can get adapters for those with a usb on one end. but most computers have a plug input for that.

thanks for the links,
I'm a little torn as to how to program for this controller (G-code, or Karel).  And I'm yet to figure out how to communicate with it.  I should have mentioned that the ports are RS232C (25 pin, not 9 pin).

yeah, If you look at all the pictures for that kit in the linc i posted, you will see that the cable is 9 pin with usb, and the kit comes with a 9 pin to 25 pin adapter
