I am programming the PMC in a R-30iA controller using FAPT Ladder III for robots.  I communicates with the robot over a RS-232 connection.

You need the PMC function on the controller.
This is an optional feature  bawling and you need to pay $$$$$ to FANUC to have this in your robot icon_smile

I'm using as well the PMC option from fanuc....
so far so good ...but I'm warning you...it ain't friendly user....

for example if you want to use a internal bit from the PMC to activate something in your TP program you will have to use a DO[11040] and you wont be able to see the description of that Output on our teach pendant.... you will need a cross reference "address map" or As I do put a comment right before it explaining what it does...

If you want my advice...It ain't the easyest way to go.... But Its pretty usefull when you want to monitor stuff all the time in background....

to program it I use my computer and FAPT Ladder III then I just transfer the file on a PCMCIA card....

Were you able to find any useful training for programming the PMC or did you just use the manuals?

I've use the manual .......

but most of it was by

trying ...failling...trying...failling...trying.... Succeed !!   icon_smile
if you see what I mean....

I don't know about the Rs-232 comm....

but if you transfer file by Memory card like I do just take your time to make sure that you don't skip any step (Compiled...De-compile...export...)....or you might corrupt your file.... it happen to me twice !!

Good Luck !!
