Dear Friends,
i have licensed copy of roboguide software.
When i convert the the 3d model to iges format to be use in roboguide, many time the software stops responding.
If i use the inbuilt iges format from standard library then its working OK.
Can any one tell me what special care has to be taken while converting any 3D model to Iges format so that roboguide accepts it.

Thanks and regards
Sachin

Here's how I do it in SolidWorks:

IGES solid/surface entities: Trimmed Surface (type 144)

Surface Representation/System preference: NURBS

Check box for Save all components of an assembly in one file

Do not check box for flatten assembly hierarchy (they say to do this in the roboguide help, however I find that it can sometimes lead to missing parts on the model)

The origin of your output coordinate system will be the origin in roboguide. If this is a model for an end of arm tool, it makes it much easier if you set up the origin where the tool connects to the faceplate. Z+ should be pointing away from the faceplate, and X+ should be pointing in the direction of the dowel hole.

Another thing I do is suppress all of the hardware and minor components so that the model is simpler to import. It's good to put those in the model if you need to figure out payload, but not necessary when importing into roboguide. The more surface entities you have in your model, the longer it will take to import.

Hi Sachin,

I also faced the same problem. It may be because of 3 things,

1. Speed of your computer Ram
2. When ever your importing the iges file as a part, Roboguide will ask wheather u r going to use edge detection function? If you press Yes then it will take lot of time.
3. Size of the file. If your file size is more try to use Cad generator which converts iges to CSB file.

Hope it may helpful to u.

Thanks,
Vignesh.

I agree.

Alternately if it is a large file you can open it and leave it overnight to see the magic completed the next day.

by the way have you installed your RG in a PC/laptop or a workstation? that makes a lot of difference.
