Change positions in robot controller via modbus or ethernet
« on: December 17, 2016, 08:28:53 PM »
I would like to be able to change for example the X value of a position in the cobtroller on a hmi which is connected to a PLC which is connected to the controller.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how to get started?

I have a 5 kg scara robot with rc7 european controller.

It has rs232 and ethernet connections.

The plc and hmi are both Omron and also have rs232, rs485 and ethernet connections.

We are changing P-Point values from our HMI. You didn't say how your PLC was connected to your controller but our PLC is connected to our RC7 controller through DeviceNet. We have several data words we can send to our controller so we send position data through them. The robot program reads this value and sets the P.X point value at the start of each cycle.

We also have robots that get position data from vision systems through the serial ports. I'm sure you could do the same thing through the EtherNet port. Take a look at the Communication Commands in the manual if you wish to do it this way.

Hope this helps.
