knowing I don't know!

« on: January 15, 2007, 06:21:45 PM »

I am in desperate need of help on an old IRB 6400 M94A with S4 Pendant.
 bawling
My problem:  When a cold start is performed the teach pendant runs it's diagnostics and then asks for a boot disk 1 to be inserted.  It states that the system is empty and to press any key to begin to load.  I do not have a boot disk, a manual, a anything for this robot.  I contacted ABB Tech support and downloaded baseware 3.1.  I put this onto disks and gave it disk 1 but it stated that it could not read the .ioc file.  I think it's because it is a newer O.S. version than what can be run on the old S4.  Does anyone have a copy of a boot disk I could get?  Any ideas that might help?  Anything?  Thanks and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Travis,

It's been awhile since I've used S4 - When you did a cold boot I think you wiped out your system files - That being the case, you need all the disks, not just boot disk 1 - I know on S4C if you do a cold boot you wipe everything out and I think it's the same for S4.

Will ABB let you download a different version of the software to suit your control?

Thanks Neon and Robotic 74  for your input.  ABB Only goes back to v3.1 O.S.  I just got off the phone with them again and found out that I have to source a v2.1 set of disks.  I work for a company that has many different divisions and many robots.  This is the first robot that my division has and will be hunting all the other divisions for the disks.  Thanks for the help.

Hi Travis, and Robotic74,

Travis I found ABB S4 software in my archive. I have 2 different sets for the 6400.

Let me know if any of these will work for you pal - I will compress and send to you.

Contents of first set are (I am not sure if this is Basic 2.0, but it is for 6400 M94A)

Qty: 1 Bootdisk

Qty: 3 Basic disks

Qty: 1 Elmo Siemens disk

Qty: 1 Advanced Funtions disk

Contents of 2nd set are (For IRB6400 - Not sure about M94A - it doesnt mention this in the disk ID file)

Qty: 1 Bootdisk

Qty: 3 Basic 2.0 Disks

Qty: 2 Elmo Siemens 2.0 disks

Qty: 1 Spotware 2.0 disk

I will send you both sets if you want, but I think the first set is what you need.

Neon,
This is great.  Can you send me both sets.  Greatly appreciated.  I think that one of the sets should work for sure.  Thanks a bunch.

I didn't receive them.  Can you try to send to tgauger@new.rr.com  That is my home email doesn't have any filters or anything on it.  I'm not sure if my work email may filter out the message.  Thanks again.  Your a real lifesaver.   angel

Hi Travis,

I looked at what i sent, and hotmail decided to eliminate the attachments. I tried again, this time with both hotmail account and my home email account. Again hotmail decided to leave out the attachments.

I did confirm that my home email worked, and sent the files with the email message lol.

Crazy hotmail - geez - at anyrate the 2 sets should be waiting for you pal. Sorry about the delay, I've been doing tons of service work for customers, and didn't have a chance to hop on the forum.

Let me know how all works ok,

Got 'em.   ;D  I have it installed and I'm up and running.  Thanks a bunch.  Now I just have to deal with all the errors I'm getting.  Shouldn't be a huge issue.  We bought this bot from GM as a used unit.  They unistalled it with a wire cutters and a torch.  Everything that used to be hooked up to it has just been hacked away so there is an entire cabinet full of i/o's and wire that don't need to be there.  Starting to work through that right now.  Slowly but surely.

Hi Travis,

It's funny, because I had a robot with the exact same thing. It was an S4C with reduntant I/O wires. The thing that bugs me about the S4C is that each robot seems to have software configured specifically for that robot (or series of robot).

I had in a couple other S4C's with missing parts and customer wanted 1 good unit out of the 2 - wasn't an easy task lol.

I'm glad you are up and running pal - good luck with the I/O issue - post in here if we can be of any more help. You also have my home e-mail, so feel free to email me if you need to ok?
