If all else fails, read the manual.

Am I allowed/recommended/supposed to edit this file?
If a copy of eio.cfg is edited offline, can/should it be FTP'ed to the bot to replace copy in /SYSPAR?
Are comments possible within the file and if so, how?
Is the file only read at boot time?
I find nothing in my documentation about direct edit of eio.cfg, is there any documentation available?
Am I allowed/recommended/supposed to edit this file?

When I change IO setup from pendant I do not see time/date of this file change. Is there another copy somewhere else on the filesystem?

Thanks
Jim

you can edit it with text editor. the eio.cfg is I/O setting.
if you want to use setting of modification, you need restore the eio.cfg to system

Yes, you can and should edit this file to Configure your I/O´s.
If you have a Profibuscard or other E/O Boards, you have to declare them in eio.cfg.

Are comments possible within the file and if so, how?
Well, if you put a # in the beginning of the Line.

Is the file only read at boot time?
Yes, you always need an Reboot.

I am looking, but also find nothing in that Moment.

No, i know only that one in /SYSPAR

i have attached a eio.cfg from us with Profibus Card and Standard I/O's.
Hope it is a bit useful.

Now that's a much easier way to do it than using pendant or RS5.09

and as long as there are no syntax errors....

You can edit the EIO.cfg file and save on an offline PC. And if you can be sure the changes you made is legal, you can load to robot by:

Other window/ Service/ System parameter/ File: load saved parameter

Of course and importantly , then you need a warm start of the robot.

hi,Werner
I view the Sample EIO.cfg you attached. Can Siemens ET200S served as a Profibus DP slave station of ABB robot?
    #
EIO_UNIT_TYPE:

-Name "ET 200S" -VendorName "SIEMENS" -DeviceType 1 -ProductId 32874\
      -ProductName "ET 200S (IM151)" -MaxDigin 1024 -MaxDigout 1024
#
EIO_UNIT:

-Name "SPS" -Type "DP_SLAVE" -Bus "PBUS" -Address "11" -Digin 144\
      -Digout 144

-Name "GREIFER" -Type "ET 200S" -Bus "PBUS" -Address "12" -Digin 4\
      -Digout 4

How can ABB robot recognize ET200S? need to inastall  ET200S GSD file into ABB robot controller?  I mean I have seen PLC add ABB GSD file and PLC then knows Profibus I/O on ABB robot. But your sample is reversely so I became a full.

Apprecaited if you or any other friends can explain. Thanks!
