Is there a software package available to monitor the robot controller I/O and routine via an intra/internet?
I found some info on Motoman doing this, but now my customer wants ABB.

Thanks in advance for any help  Huh?

If all else fails, read the manual.

I think it would depend on the bot's controller, the older ones are not as "connectable" as the IRC5's.
If you want fancy stuff, they do have their Webware Server, or if you only want basic stuff you could probably write your own.

Thanks very much Jim,

I have looked at this Webware already and it seems to be for just backing up and looking at data logged.
What I'm after is a real time remote monitoring solution. I want to be able to monitor the state of the robot i.e. what routine it's in and where in the routine it is and also to check I/O conditions.
It would be used for remote breakdown assistance etc. I don't necessarily want to send any data, just receive, then give telephone or email/IM assistance.
I have also looked at Telerobotics, which seems to be in development stages, though Motoman has a package called MotoAdmin which does exactly what I want.
I'm not a computer programmer, but I think the next step would be to see if I could develop a background program that sends program pointer info and I/O table info upon request via ethernet comms with a pc.
Sounds a bit too involved, but it's gotta be done somehow

Sounds like you need a remote pendant.
RobotStudio online, that comes free with a new robot (in Canada) has the Virtual FlexPendant feature. It's for offline programming and has a virtual robot on your PC.
ABB have very likely done something similar to Fanuc's Monitor IPendant that's built in to RoboGuide. It allows you to see an exact live copy of the pendant screen via network.
I will know more by the end of this month.
