Hello all -

I'm trying to get a robot powered up in a workshop that only has 240v single-phase power.

Specifically, an ABB IRB 6400 2.4/200 with S4C controller. I'm in the process of getting a rotary phase converter as well as a 240v -> 480v transformer for getting it under power.

What sort of specs should I be looking for on my rotary phase converter?

The ABB manual says the robot requires 7.8kVA...  how does that translate to the commonly-given specs of a phase converter: Maximum Motor HP and Total HP Capacity? Does the robot behave more like one large motor, or many smaller ones?

Furthermore, is it possible to get too large of a phase converter? According to one manufacturer,  the smallest motor powered should be 15% of the total HP capacity rating of the phase converter. Does this mean that the smaller axes of the robot may struggle if I get a phase converter with, say,  30HP total capacity?

Lots of questions, I know... any help with any one of them would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Ended up getting great results with a 20HP RPC Controller from seller "PhaseCraft" on ebay.  Outstanding service, quality product, all I had to do was find a 20HP motor at a nearby scrapyard.

PM me for more details if interested in how we got everything setup.
